Rise in Scarlet Fever Notifications

The Kent Health Protection Team have asked us to make you aware that there has been a rise in scarlet fever notifications locally, as well as in other parts of the country.  The attached factsheet has information on signs/symptoms, mode of transmission and length of exclusion which may be useful.

Public Health England have also produced guidance for schools on infection control which you may also find useful:

We have been advised that icy winter showers are forecast for the local area over the next few weeks.

We would like to remind parents that the website will be updated regularly and parents contacted via text message should the school be affected by adverse weather conditions.

Parents are politely asked not to ring the school office for updates.

Thank you.

World Book Day

Thursday 5th March 2015

This year, as always, we shall be celebrating this wonderful event with a range of exciting activities during the school day.

The children will be coming home with their £1 World Book Day voucher this week.  Remember, this can be used to off-set a more expensive book, or if you prefer, they can select a specially produced book in exchange for their voucher. These can be bought from WH Smiths, Waterstones or any other book selling outlets.

We're sure you will join us in encouraging your child to read in this way.

Thank you.

Fund Raising

The school will be fundraising on behalf of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity this year as we have two families who have close associations with them.  We shall endeavour to coincide the fundraising activities with other National events, i.e. Children in Need, Red Nose Day etc.  We hope that you will support us in our fundraising efforts.

Our first fund raising event held on 21st November raised £279.47 - Thank you.

We have introduced a new texting service in order to contact parents with general updates.  If you have recently changed your mobile number please contact the school office to ensure that they have your correct contact details. Thank you.

Curriculum Information

A copy of the Curriculum Information for each phase has now been posted to the website under 'Curriculum'.

Breakfast Club

We would like to remind parents that places at our Breakfast Club should be booked in advance.  Due to Health & Safety regulations we are restricted to 25 children per session.  The Breakfast Club is proving to be incredibly popular with some days already fully booked - if you have not pre-booked a place and would like your child to attend Breakfast Club please do not drop them off before first speaking to a member of staff.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Contract Dining Company are no longer using the monthly order forms for school meals at Lordswood.  They have however asked that you send in dinner money on a Monday for the week ahead.

Thank you.

All children will need to bring their PE Kits (shorts, t-shirt & plimsolls) daily.  A reminder that all children should have their water bottles with them daily, especially now that the weather is warm!

Thank you

We appreciate that some parents may wish to bring their dogs onto the school site when dropping off or collecting their children from school.  However, in the interests of health and safety, parents are reminded that dogs (other than service dogs) are not permitted on the school grounds - this includes dogs being carried by adults.

We would also request that parents do not leave their dogs tied up to the school fence near to the school gates.

Thank you for your cooperation.

We have been advised by Medway Council that our Pupil Premium Grant is being extended to pupils who from 1 January 2006 have been adopted from care, or are subject to special guardianship orders or residence orders.
Parents and guardians do not have to share this information as we know this is a sensitive issue.  However, if you think your child would benefit from this funding please speak to either Mrs Campbell or Mrs Martin in the strictest confidence.
